Interview Question Responses
Have you ever had a disagreement with a teacher, employer, etc.? How did you resolve it?
A few months ago I had a disagreement with my boss about my pay. At that point I had been working there for about a year, and I was upset because new employees who had just been hired were making more than me. I was mad at first, but I figure talking to him about it was the best thing to do, so that's what I did. It turns out that my boss had specific charts from corporate that told him what to pay people based on prior work experience. Being that this was my first job, I wasn't being payed as much as others because of that. It made sense to me, and the problem was resolved.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I see myself being done with college, and have my own life up and running. I'll have my own house/apartment, and a job that I can sustain myself on. I might be married, and might have kids, but those are both maybes. I don't know where I would be living, but hopefully somewhere in a small town and not in a big city.

Are you best working in a group or by yourself?
While I can work just fine in a group, I believe I work better by myself. When I work independently, I have a much easier time focusing on my work, and can get it done much quicker. I also don't have to depend on others to do part of the work, or have to worry about them getting their part done. I'm able to come up with my own ideas, and feel more invested in the project as I can explore my own idea. In a group often multiple ideas come together, and sometimes not everyone is happy with the result.

What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness?
My greatest strength is my ability to work through tough situations. I pride myself on my ability to help others through their situations, as well as persisting through my own. I never give up on the problem, and I try to work on it in order to produce the best results.
My greatest weakness is speaking in front of people. No matter how large the crowd, when speaking in front of others, I tend to stutter on my words, my face turns red, and I get very nervous. This is one of my skills that I really need to work on, and I hope to improve as time goes on.

Describe your school attendance
I try to be at school as much as possible. Making up missed work or missing notes is not fun, so I really try not to miss any school. The only times I'm really fine with missing school is if I'm sick or have a doctors appointment. School sporting events or in class field trips are also fine as well. Other than that going to school is essential in order to keep up with my work and maintain my grades.

If you found yourself in a situation in which you were asked to do something that went against your values, what would you do?
If someone asked me to do something that went against my values, it depends on the situation whether I would do it or not. If the situation was dire and I could help someone, then I would probably do what I was asked. If there was no emergency and I was simply asked by say a friend, I would not do what I was asked. I try as much as I can to stick by my values, and don't often stray from them. When I do, it's only in situations where its absolutely necessary.

What is one area of your life that you feel needs improvement?
An area of my life that I feel needs improvement is my social life. While I have many friends, I often have a hard time meeting new people. I tend to be very quiet and shy, and sometimes come across as rude because of it, even though I don't try to be. I need to improve on being more outgoing, and not be afraid to meet new people. In college and out in the real world, I'll be meeting new people all the time, so these skills are something I need to improve on relatively soon.

What motivates you to do your best?
There are many things that motivate me to do my best. One of these is my thoughts about my future. I want to be successful in life, and in order to do so you have to work hard and to your full potential. I am also motivated by my love of competition. At work or in school, I always work to the best of my ability in order to do better than my peers. This sounds like a bit much, but it very much drives me to work to my full ability and do the best that I am capable of.

If you could choose one superhero power, what would it be and why?
If I could choose one superhero power to have, It would definitely be the ability to fly. There's so many advantages that come from being able to fly. I could save hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars on plane tickets because I could just fly to where ever I wanted to go. It would be so much easier to keep in touch with relatives who live in other parts of the country, as again, I could just fly there and visit them. Maybe a lesser advantage, but I wouldn't never have to worry about falling over again, as I could just catch myself in mid air if I did fall. There are so many good things that could come out of the ability to fly, but these are just a few.

What was the last gift you gave someone?
The last gift I gave someone was for my dad's birthday, I gave him a shirt that had the MSU logo and spartan on the front, as well as on the back it said "Michigan State Dad." Since I am going to be attending MSU, I thought it would an appropriate but also funny gift for him. I also got him a card with a $25 gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings inside. It's one of his favorite restaurants, and we often go there on the weekends. My sisters got him matching shirts from the respective schools that they are attending as well.
